I have cultivated keen interest on Home Business Opportunities and I always dream of setting up my own website and venture into the vast web of e-commerce.

So, my daughter comes home today with a permission packet for a charity her school is doing. The charity is called "Jump Rope for Heart" This event is put on by the American Heart Association. Basically the elementary students will be collection donations and then..on a specific day they will have at the school, all the kids will jump rope. However, here is what has me concerned..the release and indemification form that I have to sign. It states the following:

Jump Rope for Heart involves jumping rope-a strenuous activity that may include risk such as, but not limited to physical exertion, falls and contact with other participants. I hereby expressly assume all risks, including personal injury and fatality, arising out of my child’s participation in Jump Rope for Heart and related activities.

It is my responsibility to ensure that my child’s clothing and equipment are properly fitted and appropriate for use in this event. I represent and warrant that my child is physically fit and able to participate in Jump Rope for Heart. My child agrees to stop and request assistance if he/she experiences any symptoms such as, but not limited to, dizziness, excessive fatigue, shortness of breath, pain or any other conditions that would make it difficult or unsafe to continue.

Now, this isn’t exactly the parts that have me worried, other than the equipment part (because it will be after school for the practices and they are the ones providing the equipment.) but there is the next part that makes me question if I should sign this or not:

I agree, for myself, my heirs, executors, and administrators, to not sue and to release, idemnify and hold harmless the American Heart Association, Inc. Its affiliates, officers, directors, volunteers, and employees and all sponsoring businesses and organizations and their agents and employees, from any and ALL liability, claims, demands, and causes of action WHATSOEVER, arising out of my child’s participation in this event and related activities – whether it results from NEGLIGENCE of ANY of the above or from any other causes. Furthermore, I authorize the use, copyright, or publication of my child’s name, image or voice as may be captured by photograph or recording while participating in this event and related activities in any medium for any purpose, including illustration, promotion, or advertisement.

the words that are all in capitals are the ones that are most worrisome to me. I realize this is just jump roping..but it is after school…away from eyes, …so what do you think? would you sign the permission slip for your child to participate? I mean, it would more than most likely take some sort of freak accident for something to happen, but basically this says that even if they are the ones who cause the harm to my child, I cannot hold them responsible.
Its not really about if my child gets hurt (like falling down or getting a scrape) the sign off says specifically that even if they cause an injury…if its something of their own doing, I cannot hold them responsible. I can understand not holding them responsible if my child causes something to herself..but their saying that even if they are at fault, if they are negligent, then they can’t be held responsible…that to me makes no sense? if they cause something, I mean, I know..what could they possibly cause right? the kids are just jump roping..but what kind of mindset is that of this company to say "hey…look, even if under freak circumstances we cause something, you can’t hold us responsible" that to me is just wrong and dishonest. Especially for a fund raiser. I have however, signed and volunteered to help out while she is at the practices and for the day of the jump roping. It just doesn’t sit well with me that they decide "hey, even if we do something wrong..sorry"
